I was told it was a 396 out of a 69 Chevelle, either 325 or 350 horse motor. I paid $600 for everything. Now that I have it home and cleaned up I find a crap load of numbers on this thing.

My 396 is .030"-over, making its actual displacement 401.79 cubic inches - just one lousy thousandth of an inch less per bore than a 402 (which is actually 401.99 cubic inches). The Mark IV differed from the W-series engine in the placement of the valves and the shape of the combustion chambers. Gone was the chamber-in-block design of the W-series engine (which caused the power curve to drastically dip above 6500 rpm), and in its place was a more conventional wedge chamber in the cylinder head, which was now attached to a conventional 90 degree deck…
