Tryptophan pyrrolase

This enzyme belongs to the family of oxidoreductases, specifically those acting on single donors with O2 as oxidant and incorporation of two atoms of oxygen into the substrate (oxygenases). This family includes tryptophan 2,3-dioxygenase (TDO, also sometimes referred to as tryptophan oxygenase and L-tryptophan pyrrolase) and the closely related indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase enzyme (IDO). Both TDO and IDO contain one noncovalently bound heme per monomer; TDO is us… WebFigure 5. Conversion of the ferric enzyme to cyanide complex in the presence and absence of tryptophan. WebThe results suggest that tryptophan pyrrolase per se does not play a unique role in survival of mice poisoned with endotoxin, but this enzyme may reflect the fate of other liver enzymes inducible by adrenocorticoids. Using substrate induction as a tool, we attempted to determine the role of tryptophan pyrrolase in the response to endotoxin in mice.
